Gene and Sarah’s wedding day was one that just absolutely made my heart burst with joy. These two have such a deep journey, and compliment each other so well. They have both the commitment to weather storms and the passion to make it fun. I cannot tell you how glad I am that I got to be a part of their Fort Collins, backyard wedding planning.
Gene and Sarah met around 5 years ago, and had their first date in one of my favorite places in the world- Coffee on the Rocks, Estes Park. Here’s where the plot thickens. Gene was in fort collins, and had just bought property up the poudre canyon. Sarah lived in Estes park with her two little kiddos. Think about google map time estimates. And then remember that Estes Park experienced massive flooding in 2013 and the main highway to get into it (which is still far from the poudre), has spent years being closed for 6 months out of the year to repair the broken roads. And these two had an attraction. Through all these years, COUNTLESS hours in the car and Sarah raising her littles, these two chose to love one another. When you see them together, you can see why it was worth it. They are a match.
When we sat down to talk about their wedding, their priorities were on meaning, relationships, and most importantly God. Having heard the vision and then walked out the day with them, they accomplished what they wanted. The friends and family who came to celebrate came to rejoice wholeheartedly, bringing unique touches with them. Gene is a volunteer Poudre fire fighter, and his crew brought the FIRE ENGINE at just the perfect time to sound the horn at the end of speeches. Sarah’s mother flew in Lei’s from Hawaii for the ceremony, as that is where Gene proposed. The groomsmen went and pulled railroad spikes off an abandoned track to take to a blacksmith with Gene so he could pound out the cake cutting knife. So much care was present, right down to the venue of a private home offered by a friend for the event. Even through the skies opened up and poured, it left a deep green that made me think Colorado never looked more Hawaii. Being able to join into days like this is one of the reasons that I so love my job of being a colorado wedding photographer.
Gene and Sarah, I wish you all the happiness in the world. Congratulations!!
