Robert & Yaroslava have such a unique story…She is Russian and he is Lithuanian. They met on a stormy night in a French restaurant that Yaroslava and her room mates had chosen for a girls night. Robert was volunteering to help out his Aunt, the restaurant owner, that evening, and right away there were sparks! Yaroslava stayed behind from the others when the left, with the cold and drizzle being a good excuse to stay in from walking for a while longer.
These two fit perfectly together, and I’ve loved getting to be a part of the wedding journey with them. I also have to say, they are SO easy to photograph!!! Tell any Colorado Wedding Photographer, “You can have 2 hours for bride & groom portraits”, and you’re going to get immediate excitement! Especially when you get to work with people that you enjoy like these two.
Their day was especially intimate as they had a small wedding and really spent time with their guests. These two love classical architecture, and the wedding ceremony was located at the Grant Humphries Mansion in Denver. We went for the classical columns for more portraits at Cheeseman Park & the DU campus. Finally, the reception and scrumptious meal were at the French restaurant they met at in Cherry Creek, La Merise.
During the reception, I was introduced to a new russian tradition…the gorko. Guests shout it out and the couple kisses-the longer they kiss (counted by the guests), the longer years of happiness they’ll have. Well this took a new turn the night of their wedding! Simply put, it turned into a length of kissing competition between the bridal couple and challengers. In this case the challengers were Robert and Yaroslava’s parents! Let’s just say that the competition was fierce, and everyone was rolling with laughter as each couple kept kissing to endure past the others. By the way, Robert & Yaroslava won. 😉
Congrats you two, I loved getting to be with your on your wedding day!!!
Shout out to my awesome 2nd shooter this day, Rachel!
